The dawn of a new decade brought about swift changes in social practices and a heightened focus on cleanliness, driving a desire to deeply understand our daily relationship with self-care practices. With a profound understanding of psychology, chemistry, and physiology, there arose a need to better comprehend how sensory stimulation could positively affect our well-being. As the age of information unfolded and humans increasingly consumed it, albeit unaware of its potential negative effects, we slowly began to realize the limitations that arose from constantly uploading and downloading copious amounts of data each day. It is no wonder that we sometimes feel a little unbalanced. Thus, the question presented itself: How can we be keenly aware of our individual selves in a way that naturally guides us to self-correct and address physiological, psychological, and spiritual imbalances?

My initial endeavor was to practice aromatherapy as a means to teach students how to apply scientific principles in a playful context. Through investigating the effects of fragrance, pleasing aesthetics, and reflective writing, I discovered that participating students exhibited a calmer and more joyful energy. Over time, I observed the cause-and-effect relationship between various oils, whether applied topically or inhaled, and the resulting behavioral and physiological outcomes. Students were able to explicitly communicate how essential oils influenced changes in their mood and began exploring ways to harness this influence to calm their nerves in the face of educational aspirations and the stress associated with achieving desired academic results.
